Unpopular opinion: Halloween shouldn’t be about horror movies, chainsaws and gore. My friends love a classic horror movie on a cold fall night, but I, on the other hand, will be having nightmares for weeks. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to get into the Halloween spirit like everyone else. So if you’re like me, here are my top 5 nightmare-free Halloween throwback episodes that get me into the spooky spirit of the season.

“The Suite Life of Zack and Cody – The Ghost of Suite 316” (S:1 E:19)

This episode is my favorite Halloween episode to date. Even though I was terrified of it as a kid, nostalgia brings back so many memories. The episode follows Zack, Cody and all their friends in the “haunted” suite 316 as they attempt to connect with the ghost of the last woman who lived there. As Zack continually pulls pranks, everyone wonders: Are the spooky happenings Zack or is there really a ghost? You’ll have to watch to find out!

“iCarly – iScream at Halloween” (S:1 E:7)

“iScream On Halloween” is the perfect blend of comedy and suspense. Carly, Sam and Freddy shoot an episode of iCarly in a supposedly haunted apartment. Scenes jump from spooky events that begin to interrupt the show to Spencer, who hands out random items instead of candy. This episode will keep you on the edge of your seat while laughing at the chaos.

“Friends – The One with the Halloween Party” (S:8 E:6)

I love “Friends” because it’s “easy to watch TV,” and this episode is no different. “Friends” cast aside the spooky side of Halloween and brought the reality of what the day is usually all about – a Halloween party, silly costumes and a little drama. During the episode, Phoebe finds out that her sister is getting married to someone she has known for two weeks, while Rachel gives money instead of candy. The episode ends with a lot of arm wrestling. It probably sounds a bit confusing and chaotic, but that’s what makes it so great!

“Zoey 101 – Haunted House” (S:2 E:4)

“Zoey 101” is now on Netflix, giving everyone even more reason to watch the Halloween episode. Logan is tasked with creating a haunted house at the PCA, but Zoey and Chase think he’s made it too scary for the kids. Dustin and his friend get lost inside while Michael is chased around campus by a couple from France who think he’s sick from his costume. The twist ending still makes this episode worth watching.

Spongebob Squarepants – Scaredy Pants” (S:1 E:13)

Okay, I know “Spongebob” might sound like a litter, but somehow it still makes me laugh like when I was a kid, and for that reason, it made the list. During the episode, Spongebob and Patrick try to dress up to have the scariest costumes for Krusty Krab’s Halloween party until the Flying Dutchman shows up. Just when you think he’s spooked everyone, SpongeBob has something else on his mind. This episode is a quick watch and something everyone would enjoy.

So, if you’re like me, as Halloween approaches, replace horror movies with light, nightmare-free TV so you can still sleep soundly at night!
